Antiochians Elect New Bishops

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy on Saturday, July 30, at the 50th Convention of the Antiochian Archdiocese, His Eminence Metropolitan Philip announced that the Synod had elected three archimandrites of the Archdiocese for elevation to the episcopacy.

They are:

Rt. Rev. Archimandrite John Abdalah, who will serve as the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Worcester and New England;

Rt. Rev. Archmandrite Anthony Michaels, who will serve as the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Toledo and the Midwest;

Rt. Rev. Archmandrite Nicholas Ozone, who will serve as the auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn and assist His Eminence at the Archdiocese headquarters in Englewood, NJ.

Please remember these servants of our Lord in your prayers, and may God grant them many years!

Know Jesus, Know Kudzu

Freshly home form the Antiochian Archdiocesan Convention; throwing up this old piece up that I've been sitting on a while:

(Newser) – Other states might be green with envy, but it's only North Carolina that can claim its very own "miraculous" Kudzu Jesus. The mass of runaway weeds growing up a power utility pole and wires near the town of Kinston looks remarkably like Jesus Christ on the cross, say several witnesses. “I thought I was crazy the first time I saw it and it resembled Jesus," said Kent Hardison, who runs Ma's Hotdog Stand less than half a mile from the vision. "Maybe he's looking out for us." One thing's for certain: Kudzu Jesus will likely be around for a while, notes the Kinston Free Press. Hardison, who frequently uses herbicide to destroy kudzu growing up local power lines, has decided against it in this case. "You can't spray Jesus with Roundup," he explained.

Honestly, though, a better "Jesus" appeared in the Kudzu a year or so ago.

Voila:

Speaking of Kudzu, this from "Kudzu" cartoonist Doug Marlette (December 6, 1949 – July 10, 2007):

In the Bathroom - Eight Days A Week

The day my copy arrived, my 9-year old looked through it for about an hour -- Enough to make an old DJ Dad proud!

She came up to me and exclaimed: "Dad! It says 'On this day Elvis and Priscilla Presley had a baby exactly nine months after their wedding day!' Then, I looked back nine months -- and that was the day they got married!'"

(Dontcha know tongues wagged back in the day?)

Ron's book, and I say this as a huge compliment, is the perfect bathroom book!

You can also follow Ron on Twitter:

(October 24) * What girl group appeared as nuns on an episode of "Tarzan" on TV? (January 12) * Which British drummer once drove his Lincoln Continental into the swimming pool of a Holiday Inn? (August 24) * Which pop star escorted Madonna to the 1991 Academy Awards? (March 25) * Which legendary group once held a "press conference" in the middle of Chicago's Michigan Avenue? Fr Danislav's Itty Bitty Great Books

Fr Danislav Gregorio is no stranger to the Orthodixie Podcast – twice before, I have interviewed him about his publishing efforts.

First, there was 2007’s An Empty Church is a Peaceful Church – and, just last year, I sat down with Fr Danislav to talk about his last book: Speedy Sacraments for Liturgical Losers.

Well folks, it seems Fr Danislav has been busy!

He stopped by the Orthodixie Studio today to hawk his new publication – a rather ambitious project -- a series of Great Books which he has just published!

Welcome, Fr Danislav ...

Sad News: Camp St Raphael

"Oh, come on! What Sad News?"

"I hope it's not about hats."

"Hel-llllo-o-o-o-o-oo! Anyone still here? Come on in ... Sad News!"

Hearing the News; abandoned canoes.

Stragglers dally by the water slide (click to enlarge).

Punching bag for anger management, following the News.

Prayers offered, in hopes the Good News proves Sad News a fable.

A sad man faces Dodge Ball desertion ... following the News.

"I heard there was sad news ... ?"

"You kiddin' me? What Sad News?"

"Hey guys! Someone's yelling for us!"

"Everyone out of the lake! Head back to Camp for Sad News!"

("This whole Sad News bit is totally creeping me out!")

"What?! Hang on babe, my signal's weak! Did you say SAD?"

"Sad?! I thought we were working on Happy!"

What, you ask, is the Sad News?

"Goodbye, Camp St Raphael!"

Until ...
next year.

Boot Scootin' @ Camp St Raphael (Pt 4)

Looks like this guy stole the horse out from under ...

him.

Some cowboys have a wider stance than others.

Man-with-no-horse found that funny.

Trae got guns. (Only in Oklahoma.)

Don't let this little filly fool ya!

But these here cowpokes are good eggs.

Looks like a mean crowd done crashed the corral.

Deputy Dawg, I'd say.

To serve and protect the women folk ...

... sometimes ya gotta lock up the crazies.

Prepping for the Camp Pic (CSR Pt 3)

Obviously, everyone got the: MEMO.

Oh, and after breakfast, assemble for the Camp Group Pic.

Wait. Wait. Wait.

Whatchewlookinat?

First, a song by the Counselors: Lean on Me.

Father Time passes by ...

By the way: Hi, Miss Sandy!

I'd suggest, when you're not strong, leaning on this Chick.

Good grief! "I take that back about leaning on me!"

Awwww. Kinda weird. But, awwwww anyhow.

Camp St Raphael Color Wars

'Member when I said Eddie could get darker? He did.

Color Wars this year was between the Yellow Team ...

... and the Black Team.

After a spirited lunch, the "warriors" headed outside under a beautiful Oklahoma sky.

Did I mention the temps were over one hundred all week?

Still, the games went on; Angle Ball being one of the hottest contests.

In the end, Yellow prevailed.

More pics to come!
